Federal regulators have shut down yet another unsafe trucking company, ordering J&A Transportation out of service on as of April 9.
This is the third closure of an unsafe trucking company in as many weeks.
"Safety is our top priority at the U.S. Department of Transportation … Commercial truck companies whose disregard of the law places the traveling public at risk will not be allowed to operate on our nation's highways." U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood
FMCSA has also been cracking down on “reincarnated carriers”: trucking companies that have been ordered to shut down and do not comply. This was the case with an Oregon bus company, RC Investment Inc., which was declared “a hazard to the public.” The Oregon–based business did not cease operations as required, and will now face legal actions.
A bill pending in the U.S. Senate that would enhance current safety rules for commercial vehicles (like trucks and buses) makes important improvements to federal truck and bus safety standards – and it gives FMCSA more power to remove unsafe drivers or carriers.
